The Dogo Argentino originates from Argentina, as the name suggests. The breed was developed in the 1920s by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez, who wanted to create a dog that was a great hunter of large game (like wild boar and puma) and also a loyal family companion. The name "Dogo" means "mastiff" in Spanish, and "Argentino" means "Argentinian". The breed was created by crossing the now-extinct Cordoba Fighting Dog with other breeds like the Great Dane, Boxer, and Bull Terrier.
