About Cockapoo
The Cockapoo is what is referred to as a designer breed. This means it is a deliberate mix between two breeds in hopes to retain the best quality of both. Cockapoos are a mix between the cocker spaniel and the poodle, and should be an outgoing, social, and intelligent.

Cockapoos are an old breed in comparison to many of the designer dogs. They are known to be a friendly and active dog that gets along well with others. Because they are a poodle cross, they are typically hypoallergenic. While they are active, Cockapoos will adjust to life with someone who isn’t able to provide a lot of exercise.

While the exact origin of the cockapoo can only be speculated, it has been around for several decades. The breed dates back to sometime in the 1950s. The cockapoo is a cross between either an American Cocker Spaniel or an English cocker spaniel, and a poodle of any size. Most good cockapoo breeders do not sell first generation cockapoos, but rather breed two cockapoos together. Sometimes a cockapoo may be bred with a poodle to take advantage of the non-shedding poodle coat.

Because the breed has been around for many decades, reputable breeders have managed to create a standard for the cockapoo. Breeders hope someday to have the breed accepted by the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club, but it is currently considered a mixed breed by both clubs.

As the Cockapoo is a mixed (hybrid) breed, there may be less of a susceptibility to the genetic health problems that are more common in the purebred dogs from either side of their ancestry. While purebreds may be likely to have common genetic diseases due to their parentage, the dilution of the pure lines through the breeding cross may make this proclivity notably lower.

The Cockapoo is accepted to be a pleasant, tolerant, and patient dog that associates well with children and other animals. They enjoy playtime with kids and have an understanding way about them. The cockapoo is a wonderful choice for most potential dog owners, except those who have never owned a dog before. Because of the variability in size and color, there is a cockapoo that will fit just about every lifestyle.

Training & Intelligence
This is a hybrid breed, there is no standard as to trainability regarding every individual. Though overall they are patient, intelligent dogs that are social and have a desire to please, there are defects from this general nature that can lead to instances of possessiveness over toys, furniture or food, begging, hard headedness, and being strong willed. All Cockapoos should be shown strong leadership and guidance and be trained using positive reinforcement techniques that are both kind and consistent.

Cockapoo are healthy and sturdy breed . Generally a dog takes around 18 months to reach his or her full height and structure. It is advisable to breed your dogs after at least two years of age. If you are a first timer at breeding then taking a vets help.
