Blind Dog Bowie Found Safe and Sound 300km Away from Gold Coast Residence

After an intense interstate search, a beloved blind dog, Bowie, who was allegedly stolen from a Gold Coast family, has been discovered safely 300 kilometers away from its home.

The Australian shepherd, a four-year-old named Bowie, was reported missing when Luke Durman and his 10-year-old son Leo returned to their Southport residence and discovered it had been ransacked. Their car was also missing. Fortunately, Bowie was found in good health near Nambucca Heads, New South Wales, after the New South Wales Police intercepted the vehicle.   Queensland Police stated that a 48-year-old  man connected with the incident had been detained and expected to be accused of property offenses.

Mr. Durman expressed relief upon the safe recovery of Bowie and shared an emotional moment with his son Leo. He said, “It wasn’t until I saw Leo that I got emotional. We had a cuddle and cried, and we’re on our way now to get him.”

Before Bowie’s retrieval, a man was seen driving the family’s car at a service station in Yamba around 4:30 PM on Wednesday. A dog resembling Bowie was observed in the passenger seat.

The well-being of Bowie had been a significant concern for Mr. Durman since the Australian shepherd suffers from full cataracts and requires daily care. The alleged robbery left police perplexed, as golf clubs were reportedly broken in half, a wedding gown was missing, and baby photos had been discarded in the toilet.

However, the public response to help locate Bowie has been described as “amazing” by Mr. Durman, who expressed gratitude for the support received. He mentioned that the community rallied together through  Facebook and Instagram, reposting and sharing information, which ultimately played a crucial role in Bowie’s recovery.
